CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (July 27, 2009) – Meddius, the leading provider of integration appliances for the healthcare industry, is announcing the launch of SecureTransport™, a supporting technology for Integration Routers® that allows customers a platform for data interchange while meeting the new security requirements of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

On February 17th, President Obama signed the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA). While widely known as an economic recovery bill, this legislation also imposed new privacy and security requirements on healthcare providers, vendors, and other business entities. The legislation expanded the HIPAA privacy and security requirements to include a new federal data breach law, new encryption security requirements, and expanded regulations on vendors.

SecureTransport™ allows healthcare networks at different locations to be securely connected, using a public network as the transport layer and overcoming the limitations associated with traditional site-to-site VPN products. Using established approaches from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), SecureTransport™ encrypts all data interchange using algorithms defined in Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2. Using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) 3/Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1 as non-proprietary protocols to meet the new security requirements for transmitting electronic personal health information over a public network, SecureTransport™ operates as a zero-configuration platform through which Integration Routers® may be rapidly deployed as turnkey devices in any healthcare environment.

SecureTransport™ is currently utilized by Integration Routers® deployed to sites within 33 states across the US. This new platform is available today at no additional charge to all customers with an active subscription.
