CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia (May 19, 2011) – Meddius, the leading provider of Integration as a Service in the healthcare industry has enhanced its health information exchange (HIE) capabilities by adding interoperability support for the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) using CONNECT software. By hosting the CONNECT components on the Meddius Integration Router^® Meddius subscribers can now securely exchange health information with other regional networks of HIE’s using NHIN standards.

“Vendors, providers, and payers need a solution to share health information across regional and national information networks. Through CONNECT on the Meddius Integration Platform™ we can provide these capabilities as a service,” says Jeff Gunther, CEO of Meddius. “We realized early on that healthcare organizations don’t necessarily want to learn new integration technologies; they just want a reliable and comprehensive integration solution. Adding CONNECT to our Integration as a Service model gives our clients the ability to exchange data with other HIEs out of the box, which further lessens their integration workload.”

CONNECT software started as an open source library developed by U.S. federal agencies to support governmental initiatives and was later released for public and commercial use. It includes the basic components for the setup of an HIE as well as technologies and standards to securely connect multiple HIEs. Support for CONNECT gives Meddius Integration Platform™ subscribers the ability to send and receive data to and from the National Health Information Network on-demand.
